Understanding. What is understanding? According to Dictionary.com understanding is:

-a state of cooperative or mutually tolerant relations between people

-a mutual agreement, especially of a private, unannounced, or tacit kind.

-an agreement regulating joint activity or settling differences, often informal or preliminary in character.

From the explanation itself brings various meanings. Cooperative, mutual tolerance, mutual agreement and relations. It is very important to have understanding between humans in whatever relationships. It is a natural thing for humans to have understanding in relationship.

However, not all are like that. Sometimes we seek mutual understanding but it just don't come by. It is only natural a God create everyone with different minds, thinking and different feelings. There are times where you thought you've understand but the fact is you don't.

To me, time and communication are the ways to understand a person. Some take years to understand someone, some took a lifetime and yet failed to understand a certain individual in the end.

To understand someone is to first observe. We have to observe his/her whereabouts, habits, likings and dislikes.

Second is through communicating. God gave humans the best tool in every single one of us. No matter where we are from, what language that we speak, we will just somehow find a way to communicate. To know someone well and to understand someone comes from communication. Communication sets a man's heart and internal feelings free. We tend to express our feelings out through speech in order for another person to understand.

Time. Understanding needs time to build and nurtured. No one can just understand someone in a day after their first meet. We change all the time, our thinking, our attitude or our habit. Wr might understand a person a few years ago but it doesn't mean that we can be able to understand that particular person now. With time, he/she might not like something that he/she used to like.

Lastly, love. Love is not just between two individuals, but love between any and everyone. Love is the key to understanding. When you love someone, you will somehow try your best to understand that person as well as possible to please or to make that someone happy. It doesn't matter whether it is love between parent and child, friends, colleagues or couples.

Therefore, we must observe, communicate, take time and the MOST important thing is LOVE. God says "go out and LOVE ONE ANOTHER". We must first love in order to build an understanding between individuals or vice-versa.
